With this vehicle, Schmitz Cargobull has developed an equipment concept that will make a significant contribution to reducing pollutant emissions. The purely electrically operated S.CUe cooling unit with integrated power electronics without a combustion engine is designed for emission-free cooling and heating of the load. Instead of a diesel tank, batteries are installed on the landing gear. In addition, the system is equipped with an electrified Schmitz Cargobull trailer axle, which, among other things, Energy is recuperated during braking, thus reducing battery recharging times via the power grid.
Schmitz Cargobull was also able to assert itself among the first places in the other categories. The TrailerConnect® door locking system took an excellent second place in the “Safety” category. This ensures that the goods are protected from access by third parties. In the TrailerConnect® portal, the user can define loading and unloading points at which the door locking system automatically unlocks or locks on entry and exit.
In the “Components” category, the new air distribution system in the S.KO COOL SMART box semitrailer took third place. Avoiding “warm spots” and simplified handling for more efficiency in everyday transport were the primary goals.
Schmitz Cargobull achieved another third place in the “Concept” category with the EcoDuo transport concept, which has already won several awards. In the EcoDuo combination, two standard semi-trailers – connected to one another via a dolly – are coupled to a tractor unit. With this vehicle combination, Schmitz Cargobull is advocating the Europe-wide introduction of a transport concept that relieves the existing infrastructure, reduces CO2 emissions and takes current standards in the transport industry into account.

The jury of this renowned industry award is made up of specialist journalists from sixteen European transport magazines. The “Trailer Innovation” platform deals with interesting innovations in everything to do with trailers and bodies and has been awarding them every two years since 2002. Innovations of all types and sizes from the trailer sector will be presented. This year the prize will be awarded for the tenth time in a total of seven categories.
